Since it’s inception, the Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship is proud to have hosted nationally recognized speakers, writers and educators from around the nation, and the world. In commemoration of Henry Clay’s 200th anniversary of his first election as speaker, the Center organized “the Role of the Speaker of the House, A Tribute to Henry Clay”, presenting three living speakers of the house; John Beohner, Nancy Pelosi and Dennis Hastert. This event’s underlying message was the importance of remembering Henry Clay’s powerful legacy as speaker, a legacy of compromise and cooperation. Now, as ever, the Center continues to promote that legacy by bringing distinguished speakers to lecture and lead discussion focusing on the critical issues of the day.
